HERO DOGS VOLUNTEER TRAINING On Sunday November 18 we are offering two volunteer trainings. At 12:30PM for any volunteer interested in working one of our three daily shifts with our kennel dogs. Introduction to Hero Dogs is offered at 3PM for all interested volunteers, applicants and donors. You will learn about our mission to raise, train and provide Service Dogs for veterans and first responders, get the overview of our program, volunteer positions, a dog demo and kennel tour. We are located near Brookeville (a mile or two from intersection of Georgia Ave & Damascus Rd, but we don't show up on the GPS services), more detailed instructions and map will be provided to registered attendees the Friday before the event. MASTER GARDENER TRAINING Both new and experienced gardeners are invited to register for the 2019 Master Gardener Training Program offered by the University of Maryland Extension, Howard County Office. Training will cover plant, insect and disease problems, and a variety of other topics related to sustainable and environmental impacts of gardening practices. Training is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 and will end on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. An orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 12 Noon. Classes will meet from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Extension Office in Ellicott City. Cost of the training is $195. The mission of the Master Gardeners is to provide education to consumers; therefore, willingness to volunteer time is essential. Lack of hands-on experience in the garden should not deter potential applicants. Anyone with a keen interest in gardening - and especially those with other skills and interests, such as writing, graphics and computer knowledge - is encouraged to apply. The registration deadline is November 2, 2018. Class size is limited. Registration is required. MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET November 24, 2018 - January 1, 2019, Hampden, Baltimore City. One block in Hampden puts on a Christmas light display that is surely visible from space. Neighbors in this block of rowhouses string Christmas lights across 34th Street. Inflatable snowglobes, musical trains and blinking angels adorn homes. A few even allow visitors to peek inside. The lights are on every night from Thanksgiving weekend to January 1st, including staying on all night on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Free.
